I was bartending in Brooklyn when I got the call that my brass player had to back out of our scheduled brass/woodwinds session the following day. With studio time scheduled and paid for, and little time to find a replacement, Jon Natchez (who was only planning to play woodwinds on Anchored) came to the rescue and said “I can try to do all the parts”. So the next day we loaded his euphonium, trumpets and various brass into my truck. He played everything. He played it well. He saved the day and the album.
He’s an awesome dude and a talented musician. While he’s most well known for playing in Beirut, his own project Yellow Ostrich is quite cool, and recently signed to Barsuk Records.
